Please explain why absences beyond the number allowed in the syllabus is not a reasonable accommodation. | - There is significant interaction between the instructor and students during the class meeting (e.g., discussion, interactive experiences, problem solving). - There is significant classroom interaction among students during the class session (e.g., peer review, teamwork, group discussion). - A fundamental learning objective relies on active student participation during the class meeting (e.g., lab experiments, paired languagelearning, performance work, clinical placement rotations). - The student’s absence or variable attendance will constitute a significant loss of the educational experience for the student and/or classmates (e.g., group or paired projects, performances) and/or cause a disturbance to course instruction. |

Please explain why deadline extensions beyond the number allowed in the syllabus is not a reasonable accommodation. | - If an assignment is not completed by the deadline, the student be unprepared to fully participate in a class meeting. - If the assignment is not completed by the deadline, there will be a direct impact on the learning experience for the student and/or classmates (e.g., team projects, participation) - Meeting assignment deadlines constitute a learning objective of the course (completing creative assignments within time constraints is artistic discipline) - An additional day or two extension alter the purpose and ability to grade the assignment using the same criteria applied to the class as the student would have the benefit of having heard feedback on other students' work. - The sole exception are the (2) Critical Response Papers. A mutually agreed upon extension is resonable. |
