Additional details or exceptions to allotment: Because learning in this course takes place entirely through in-class discussions of the assigned readings, I typically require students to withdraw from the course upon their fifth absence. It simply becomes impossible for a student to succeed on the major course requirements once they have missed that much instruction. As an accommodation, I will impose a penalty for the fifth absence and only require a withdrawal upon the sixth absence.
